Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)
Personalized Hormone Care
Hormone Replacement Therapy, or HRT, is a medically supervised treatment approach that may be used to address symptoms associated with hormone changes or clinically significant hormone deficiency. Our focus is on careful evaluation, individualized treatment planning, and ongoing monitoring to support each patient’s health, comfort, and quality of life.
Hormone levels naturally change over time, and symptoms that may appear to be hormone-related can also have other causes. For this reason, treatment begins with a comprehensive medical assessment rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
Hormone Therapy for Women
For some women, hormone therapy may be considered for symptoms associated with perimenopause or menopause. Treatment is individualized based on symptoms, medical history, risk factors, treatment goals, and the patient’s stage of life.
Symptoms that may lead a patient to seek evaluation include:
Hot flashes or night sweats
Sleep disruption
Vaginal dryness or discomfort
Discomfort with intercourse
Changes in sexual desire
Mood changes or irritability associated with the menopausal transition
Other symptoms that may be related to changing hormone levels
Not every symptom requires hormone therapy, and hormone treatment is not appropriate for every patient. Your provider will review your history, symptoms, and available treatment options before making a recommendation.
Testosterone Replacement Therapy for Men
Testosterone replacement therapy may be considered for men who have symptoms consistent with testosterone deficiency together with appropriately confirmed low testosterone levels. Because fatigue, changes in mood, reduced sexual desire, changes in body composition, and other symptoms can have many possible causes, evaluation and appropriate testing are important before treatment begins.
When testosterone therapy is medically appropriate, the treatment plan is individualized and monitored over time. Dosing and follow-up are based on clinical response, laboratory findings, medical history, and safety considerations.
What to Expect at Your Initial Evaluation
Every patient begins with a comprehensive medical evaluation. This may include:
A detailed review of current symptoms and treatment goals
Medical and surgical history
Current medications and supplements
Relevant family history and health risks
Discussion of reproductive and fertility goals when applicable
Laboratory testing when clinically appropriate
Review of treatment options, potential benefits, risks, and alternatives
If hormone therapy is medically appropriate, your clinician will develop a treatment plan based on your individual needs rather than treating a laboratory number alone.
Laboratory Testing & Ongoing Monitoring
Ongoing monitoring is an important part of hormone therapy. Follow-up visits allow us to review how you are feeling, assess treatment response, discuss any side effects or concerns, and review relevant laboratory or health markers.
Medication doses or treatment plans may be adjusted when appropriate based on symptoms, laboratory results, clinical response, and changes in your overall health. The goal is to use the lowest appropriate treatment needed to address the individual patient’s clinical needs.
Who May Be a Candidate?
Hormone therapy may be an option for some adults with clinically significant symptoms related to hormonal changes or documented hormone deficiency. Eligibility is determined through an individualized medical evaluation.
Hormone therapy may not be appropriate for patients with certain medical conditions or risk factors. Your consultation will include a review of factors such as:
Personal and family medical history
Cardiovascular and blood-clotting risk factors
History of certain hormone-sensitive cancers or other significant conditions
Current medications
Pregnancy or plans for pregnancy when applicable
Future fertility goals
Other medical factors that may affect treatment safety
If hormone therapy is not appropriate, your provider can discuss other options that may be better suited to your symptoms and health goals.
Fertility & Family Planning
Hormone therapy can affect fertility, and future reproductive goals are important to discuss before starting treatment. Patients who are planning pregnancy or who may wish to preserve fertility should make sure these goals are included in the treatment discussion before therapy begins.
A Treatment Plan Built Around You
Hormone care should be individualized. Two patients with similar symptoms may require very different evaluations or treatment plans. Our approach considers your symptoms, medical history, laboratory findings, goals, preferences, and ongoing response to treatment.
If treatment is appropriate, we will review the available options with you and create a plan that includes appropriate follow-up and monitoring.
Schedule a Hormone Consultation
If you are experiencing symptoms that may be related to changing hormone levels, schedule a consultation to discuss your concerns, determine whether additional testing is appropriate, and learn which treatment options may be suitable for you.
